9/12/07 nice waves in 3 tunnels penzance - 2007/12/10 21:18
the Cornish north coast was battered yesterday in winds up to 90mph gusts, sennen cove took a beating with some impressive 20 25 foot storm swell. so me and my mate went to checkout the south coast in the hope that the rear'ish conditions would make things work in mounts bay. when we got there we were greeted by 3 to 4 foot cleanish waves and a brisk offshore wind, I know it doesn’t sound like much but if you live in the area you’ll know that mounts bay can make a mill pond look choppy
to get to the break you have to walk through one of three tunnels that go under the train track, I am sure the people of Penzance were a bit spun out but the sight of surfers off the town. it was a short ride but nice never the less, the takeoff is steep and you got to think quick to maximize you ride time before it all close's in on you
there was about ten people in the water in a small space, but I was glad to see that everyone was being cool and not dropping in on each other. in all it was a nice surf in a place that is normally sucks, thanks to all the guys that were down there, it was fun, but that’s it for another decade.
back to sennen.
